Scottish Philatelic Trade Association

The Association; its organisation and objectives

Scotland's Professional Philatelists
Serving the Philatelic Community in Scotland.

The S.P.T.A. was founded in 1977 with the aims of promoting and protecting the philatelic business in Scotland, and of promoting the hobby in general.
Over thirty years on, the principles have not changed.

» Collectors can have confidence when dealing with any business which displays the S.P.T.A. logo, in the knowledge that the business has declared itself willing to follow the Association’s standards for good business practice.
» A professional body which appreciates the differences (in legislation, custom, and geography) between Scotland and the other parts of the U.K.
» A group of philatelic professionals who actively try to raise standards.
» A complaints procedure which is designed to solve problems as fairly and easily as possible.
» The S.P.T.A. is in regular contact with collector organisations.
» Scotex, the annual national trade show, organised by the Association each year (around the end of October/beginning of November). S.P.T.A. members have precedence in stand allocations.
» Membership of the S.P.T.A. is open to dealers in stamps, postal history, and postcards, as well as auctioneers, valuers, publishers, and any other philatelic professionals.
» The S.P.T.A. Stamp Collecting Promotion Fund has funds available for the encouragement of the hobby. Clubs, schools, or individuals should approach the Secretary for details.
» A professional body which is keen to hear the views and opinions of collectors - their customers.
